Message from the Mayor, May 20, 2024

Greetings~

Some of our busiest months are upon us. I am going to do my best to include the information needed to get us through the next 4-5 months. My apologies if I miss something.

There will be fliers for the following events: TAPS, 4th of July, National Night Out and the City-wide Garage Sale. A few ordinances, on topics that come to light every summer, are included.

Over the years, residents and other groups have made cookbooks and we would like to do it again. Proceeds will go to buying supplies for the HOPE (Homeless Outreach and Engagement) Team. It may not seem like it, but we do rely on them. Now, we don’t always get the results we want, but they are following the law and implementing things that have been put in place by our state legislature. Recipes may be emailed to recipes@cityofmaywoodpark.com. Please make sure to put your name and address on your recipe. We are looking for recipes of all kinds, hot dishes, main dishes, desserts, sauces, kid’s recipes etc. Recipes are due by August 1st.

Last year, we raised money from “Back the Badge” t-shirts which are still available. Order forms can be found under the Sheriffs page on the City website.

A new section has been added to the City website. It is the new resident welcome packet, in pdf format. The office will be open, Thursdays 10am - 1pm, to pick up parking stickers. If you are unable to stop in, you are welcome to email the office, office@cityofmaywoodpark.com, with your name and address and we will drop off a parking sticker.

As a reminder, June 3rd is our final budget hearing. This is an in-person meeting, MHCC room 305. We understand parking is difficult. You can park on Campaign or across the street in the church parking lot. PLEASE do not park in the Chevron parking lot as you will be towed.

We are continually updating the website. Please check it often. This is going to have the most up to date information.

With the nice weather, please watch your speed. If you are a biker, walker, or a driver, PLEASE share the streets.

Neither the Mayor nor City Council members are law enforcement officers. If you are having issues with your neighbor, it is a civil matter. Depending on the situation you would need to contact MCSO by calling 911 or non-emergency. Certain issues could also be handled through Code Enforcement. It is our hope to have a new Code Enforcement in place by July, 2024.

The City of Maywood Park would like to send our congratulations and well wishes to all of the graduates of 2024.

"Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”
