Swearing in of new Councilors and selection of new Mayor and Council President will occur during the first Council meeting of 2023 – Monday, January 9th.
CANDIDATE INFORMATION
Dear Candidate,
Thank you for your interest in running for the Maywood Park City Council and serving as a public official. Three City Councilor positions will be available on the November 2024 ballot. Of the three candidates, the two receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to 4-year terms. The candidate receiving the next highest number of votes will be elected to a 2-year term. At the first Council meeting of 2025, the Council will vote a Chairman, who will serve as Mayor for a 2-year term, and elect a Council President.
Below is the information you will need to file for office. Please read the information thoroughly to ensure your candidate paperwork is complete, accurate and submitted on time.
The following forms and resource information can also be found on the City’s website at www.cityofmaywoodpark.com. The filing deadlines apply to all City of Maywood Park candidates. The first day a candidate can file for office is June 5, 2024.

MAYWOOD PARK COUNCILOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Attend Council Meetings on the 1st and 3rd Mondays every month
• Typically spend at least 6 hours per month at council meetings and preparing for agenda items
• Prepare by attending at least 6 months of meetings to gain an understanding of the City prior to becoming seated on the Council in January
• Willing to do 1-3 extra meetings (during the day) per year
• Carry a responsibility for the Council (streets, franchises, etc.)
• Attend other city functions, such as 4th of July, Christmas, Easter Egg hunt, clean ups, decorate tree, etc.
• Help with drafting and working on projects
• Budget research
• Goodwill ambassador
• Help prepare the budget
RUNNING FOR OFFICE
There are two ways for you to choose to file with the City Recorder for public office:
Submit a completed candidate filing form SEL 101 (no fee).
ORSubmit a nominating petition containing at least 5 valid signatures (no fee).
Candidates Seeking to Run for Election as Councilor in the City of Maywood Park By Form SEL 101:
To file, you must be a registered voter in Multnomah County and have been a resident of Maywood Park for at least the last 12 months. You may not run if you are an employee of the city of Maywood Park. You may only run for one city office in a single election. All city offices must be nonpartisan.

Candidates Seeking to Run for Election as Councilor in the City of Maywood Park By Petition:

Upon receiving your forms, the City Recorder will review them for the required information and if it is complete, will provide written approval to circulate the prospective nominating petition. The written approval will include your: Petition ID Number; Number of signatures required (5) and the filing deadline, which is to the City Recorder for verification of signatures by August 3, 2024.
Final filing deadline, with approved and verified signatures and form is August 27, 2024.
Deadline to withdraw your candidacy for any reason is August 28, 2022. SEL 150
Campaign Finance Guidelines:
Each candidate must establish a campaign account and file a Statement of Organization designating a candidate committee unless the candidate meets ALL three of the following conditions: (Which typically applies to Maywood Park candidates historically)
Candidate serves as the candidate’s own treasurer;
Candidate does not have an existing candidate committee; AND
Candidate does not expect to receive or spend more than $750 during a calendar year. (The $750 includes personal funds spent for any campaign related cost.)

Multnomah County Voter’s Pamphlet:
If you elect for the option to be included in the Multnomah County’s Voter’s Pamphlet, there is a $25.00 fee and submission needs to be turned in directly to the Multnomah County’s Elections office by September 09, 2024.

Statement of Economic Interest (SEI) State Reporting Requirements: Reference
All persons holding an elected office in the City of Maywood Park are required to file Statements of Economic Interest with the Oregon Government Ethics Commission. The annual reports must be filed by April 15 every year of the incumbency of the elected official. This is all done electronically, and you will be notified prior to the due date. Information will be requested concerning sources of income, property, business interests and gifts related to the office. Civil penalties may be imposed for failure to file or for insufficient information. These forms are done online, and email noticed in March. For more information visit: SEI link
