Message from the Mayor, August 8, 2024

August 8, 2024

Greetings~

It’s hard to believe August is half over and school is about to start. Where did summer go?

I would like to thank everyone who helped with the 4th of July. If you would like a shirt, please let me know, we have extra available.  We have a theme for next year, “Remember When”. If you or your company would like to make a float to participate in the parade, that would be great. The more the merrier!

Once again, National Night Out was a great success. The City of Maywood Park and our residents have a great relationship with MCSO.  We would like to thank AMR, MCSO and Search and Rescue for participating this year. I would like to thank Councilors Berman and Akers for helping do the City’s part in making it a success and to the residents who participated and helped clean up after…National Night Out is ALWAYS the first Tuesday in August. It looks like the next National Night Out will be

August 5, 2025.  We look forward to seeing everyone!

I want to let everyone know; the Commons will be closed for the month of September.  We are working on some updates and are shooting for a September 2, 2024 start date.

In regard to solicitors, they must have a permit from the City of Maywood Park, NOT the City of Portland.  I will post a notice on the City website and Facebook page if a permit has been issued. A permit must be presented when it is asked for, if they cannot produce one, they must leave the City immediately. This does not mean “in their car” or “their manager has it” (City Code 5.25.090). Anyone may ask to see the permit.  Permits are not required for schools, clubs and non-profits organizations.

If you are interested in running for one of the three (3) council positions in November, and meet the requirements, forms must be submitted to the office by August 27th, 2024. Forms may be found on the City website.

The garage sale is fast approaching. Please get your forms submitted by Wednesday August 14,2024 to make sure you get a sign, and your address is included on the map.  Sign up forms may also be found on the City website and the Friends of Maywood Park Facebook group.

Over the years, residents and other groups have made cookbooks and we would like to do it again. Proceeds will go to buying supplies for the HOPE (Homeless Outreach and Engagement) Team. It may not seem like it, but we do rely on them. Now, we don’t always get the results we want, but they are following the law and implementing things that have been put in place by our state legislature. Recipes may be emailed to recipes@cityofmaywoodpark.com. Please make sure to put your name and address on your recipe. We are looking for recipes of all kinds, hot dishes, main dishes, desserts, sauces, kid’s recipes etc. Recipes are due by September 1, 2024.

One last reminder, with school starting, please watch your speed.  We need to share the roads with bikes and pedestrians.  Please keep everyone safe!!!
