Message from the Mayor - November
Greetings~
First, I would like to start out by congratulating Mike Reynolds, Aika Topolski, and Agnes Hall in the election. Welcome Aika and Agnes to the City Council. While we are sad to see Miriam and Robin leave us, we appreciated what they brought to the Council and wish them the best in their future endeavors.
There are a few things I would like to bring to your attention. Lovetts will be in Maywood the week of November 18th to do catch basins and dry well cleaning. No, I don’t know when they will be on a particular street. Please try not to park over grates in front of your residence until you are sure they have been down your street. Our apologies for this inconvenience.
We are aware many of you are wanting to get back into the Commons. We are keeping them closed until April-May. The park has been completely reseeded and we need to give it plenty of time for the grass to take root and this is an ongoing project. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
As a reminder, Maywood Park follows the same leash law as Multnomah County. This means dogs must remain on a leash any time they are not in your own yard. Neither the berm nor Commons are a dog park.
In Multnomah County, it is unlawful for dogs to be at-large. Being at-large means the dog isn’t securely restrained by a fence, gate, door, or screen while at home, and when in public, is not restrained by a leash or tether that is less than 8 feet long and under the physical control of a capable person. (Multnomah County Code §13.305 (B) 1) Allowing a dog to be at-large is a Class C Infraction, which carries a fine of up to $150 for the first offense, and may increase with each instance. Animal Services Officers provide all possible education and support to help animal owners comply with Multnomah County Ordinances and Oregon State animal welfare laws. However, citations are merited for instances involving willful disregard for laws and ordinances, repeat violations, or where animals present safety concerns.
Although it was raining, according to Facebook postings, it sounds like everyone had a pretty good turnout for Halloween. The majority of us look forward to Halloween every year, I know I do. The sad thing is the speed of traffic. I was scared someone was going to get hit. Unfortunately, this doesn’t just pertain to Halloween, it is happening all year long by our own residents. We have been encouraging MCSO to do more missions in Maywood, in hopes of bringing awareness to everyone. If you attended the last council meeting, you would have heard in Lt. Kramer’s report how they are starting to hand out tickets. At the City’s request, we have asked for this to continue until people start obeying the speed limits and stop signs.
Maywood Park is teaming up with the MCSO Toy Drive this year. Fairview, Troutdale and Wood Village also participate. Maywood is often forgotten about. I would like to change that. I want to show them what Maywood Park and our residents are all about. When there is a need, WE are there!!! This is just one of the many reasons I am proud to say I am from Maywood Park. There is information, with this letter, explaining the Toy Drive. It is my hope we will be able to fill a truck with not only unwrapped toys but wrapping paper and bows. All the fixings for a child to have a Christmas. The truck full of Toys will be delivered, under police escort, to Santa’s workshop November 30th. In the flier information, it will give a drop of times and locations. If you have any further questions about the Toy Drive, you are always welcome to reach out to me. My phone is always on. If I miss your call, please leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can! 971-207-0922!!!
Heiberg will be picking up on Thanksgiving but ask that you have your cans out by 5am, so the drivers may finish their routes and be able to spend the day with their family.
Heiberg Garbage is CLOSED on Christmas and New Years Day. Maywood Park garbage will be picked up on Friday, the week of Christmas and New Years. To answer upcoming tree questions, Heiberg will pick up trees 6ft and under. If you cut them into smaller pieces and put them in the yard debris bin, WITH the lid shut, it is no charge.
If you put your tree NEXT to your yard debris can, there is a $5.25 charge. This MUST be next to the roller bin, even if it is empty, or the driver won’t pick it up. If you have a flocked tree, it must go into your garbage can or standing next to your garbage bin. The charge for flocked trees is approximately $13.
On another Heiberg Garbage note, the yard debris bin IS NOT for food scraps. Some residents are still doing this. When the trucks go to dump, they have to wait because it is being monitored for food waste, in which Heiberg is charged for. Let’s respect Heiberg’s request so they don’t have to pass along the extra charges. Heiberg Garbage and the City of Maywood Park thanks you for your cooperation.
If you have any further questions in regard to holiday pick up times or trucks running due to inclement weather, you are welcome to visit Heiberg’s website https://heiberggarbage.com/residential/maywood-park/.
For those of you wanting to give a gift to Michael, the mailman, he has informed us he won't be delivering over the holidays. He is spending time with his family. He has asked if you are wanting to give a gift, while he appreciates the trays of cookies and candies, he won’t be here to collect them, gifts cards are appreciated and can be given early.
The City office will be open 10am - 2pm, Thursday December 19, 2024 if you would like to join us for cider and cookies. The office will be closing December 20, 2024 for the holidays and re-opening Monday January 6th, 2025 at 7pm, with our first council meeting of the year, with the swearing in of our new council members, in room 305. We would love to see you all there. For those who are unable to make it in person, you are always welcome to join us via ZOOM. The ZOOM link may be found on the top of the City web page.
PLEASE be sure to read all pages in this mailing as some may be front and back. We wouldn’t want you to miss anything. Also, if you are going to be gone over the holidays, please remember to fill out a vacation request for MCSO. Their link can be found on our City web page. We hope to see you at the Toy Drive and SantaLand.
May you have a safe and joyful holiday season.
