GAP Food Drive
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
For over 25 years, Calise and James Johnson of NE Portland have operated a home-based grass-roots food bank focused on children and seniors. Calise lets neighbors know what high-quality foods will be offered on certain days via the NextDoor, Facebook and Buy Nothing apps. They offer fresh produce, bread and pastries, meats, dairy and eggs.
Non-perishable items are available every day. Each Tuesday the Johnson's prepare close to 200 sack lunches that are distributed to homeless folks within NE neighborhoods. Additionally, personal hygiene items are always needed and appreciated since folks qualifying for the Oregon Trail card are unable to use the card for items such as toilet paper, bar soap, toothpaste/toothbrushes, diapers/wipes, razors, tampons/pads etc. This time of year, wanting to ensure families can enjoy holiday dinners, Calise and James collect ingredients for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner kits.
Please join us for coffee and doughnuts, Saturday, November 2, 2024, 8am - 10am.
The City of Maywood Park will be hosting a food drive to help the Johnson's continuing to provide boxes for the upcoming holiday season. This year's event will be held in the Campaign cul-de-sac, allowing a drive-up drop off to be offered
As always, you are welcome to contact City Council President Mike Reynolds at 503-318-3302, if you are unable to make it and would like for him to pick up donations.
