Message from the Mayor

Greetings,

My goodness, it is hard to believe in just a few short months it will be 2024! Where has this year gone? The City calendar is looking pretty busy for November and December. Below you will find a listing of event dates, times and locations.

Chili Cook-Off
I would like to thank everyone for your votes, helping me win the chili portion of the Chili and Cornbread cook-off and CONGRATULATIONS! to Katy Christie on taking home the win for cornbread. We will treasure and take good care of the traveling "golden spoon". Next year's cook-off will be held October 19, 2024. Mark your calendars!!!

Back the Badge
Some of you may have noticed, City council members wore "backs the badge" t-shirts on National Night Out. I have had several requests for them. To assist the HOPE Team with supplies, we are selling the T-shirts. Click HERE for the order form.

Trim or Be Trimmed

Trim or be trimmed notices are being sent out. If your trees (meaning its base is on your property) are blocking street lights, signs or sidewalks (along 102nd) you are responsible for trimming them. If the City has to trim "YOUR" trees, it will be for a substantial fee.

Door to Door Solicitation

It has been brought to my attention that some companies, such as gutter cleaning and pressure washing etc. have been going door to door. This is in direct violation of city code 5.25.010. Delivery of goods purchased online or via phone orders is acceptable. It has also been brought to my attention that some of these individuals are saying "your mayor supports us" or "we have spoken to your mayor". Leaving a flier on my door doesn't constitute "speaking" to me. The City of Maywood Park doesn't support or make recommendations of specific companies.

Street Sweeping
With the leaves and rains starting to fall, please help keep catch basins in front of your property clear. Also, PLEASE DO NOT blow leaves from your yard into the street. Dana, with City Sweepers, will be in Maywood Park December 5th with December 12th as a rain date. Smart PDX (formerly ValleyView) will be here the day before to blow leaves and debris away from the curbs.

Wastewater Ballot Measure # 26-242

Just a reminder, don't forget to vote. A "yes" vote means "we will move forward with connecting to sewer. A "no" vote, means "we will not move forward" with connecting to sewers, at this time. Also, this is NOT the last time you will see this topic on a ballot. At this time, we are just trying to figure out what the majority of you, the residents, want to do.

-Mayor Montross
